Scottish Post-Impressionist painter, Samuel John Peploe (1871 - 1935) inspired the name of this painting. Peploe, notes for being one of the Scottish Colourists, experimented with the bold use of colour and was interested in the effects of bright sunlight. Peploe's 1905 painting Still Life with Coffee Pot, sold on 26 May 2011 at Christies in London for £937,250, and holds the record for the most expensive Scottish painting sold at auction.
